Working as a sporting archaeologist Chris Pitt has rediscovered many of Britain's lost racecourses, unearthing much original material about an important part of the sport's rich heritage.

In compiling this unique and comprehensive account, the author has travelled a long road - the book took seven years to produce - which has taken in a diversity of long gone racing venues, from the homes of giants, such as Manchester and Hurst Park, to the pygmies like East Winch and South Brent .
